Color My World

Color my world like stained glass.  The second (and final) version of Coquille is completed and ready for the end of the KAL.

The center depth of this one is not as deep as the smallest size on the pattern which has resulted in something wider than a scarf and close to a little shawlette than an actual keep the back warm shawl.  And I love it. 

The color is courtesy of Crystal Palace Mini Mochi.  The black is left over sock yarn that was hanging around sans label.

These are my shades.  I love each bit.  I love the whole thing.

Scalloping Along

The first Coquille is completed.  "First", because already a new one is swimming about my thoughts waiting to be cast on.  And the term "already" relates to this post where things looked grim. 

This shawl is a quick and easy knit.  As the name suggests, ridges end with a scalloped detail provided by short row gussets.  The shawl is worked on two different size needles which produces an open feel without any lace work - or life lines - required.

I still have not decided how best to block the thing.  If the gussets are blocked open and wide, I need more pins.  If left soft and rumply I really don't need to block it at all.

The Zauberball plays rather nicely with the vertical stripes.  Long color repeats are the secret for this pattern. 

However, the next one that I see in my mind does not leave the color repeats to chance.  I'm hoping to control for color and wind up with a more stained glass effect.

The KAL for which this was done is not over until March.  Plenty of time. . . .

Ahead Of The Game

For right now - this little while - I am ahead of the game.  ESSS has a new KAL started.  And I want it on the record that I am ahead.  December 26, 2012.  Ahead of the game. 

You might be wondering why I insist on telling you over and over and over that I'm ahead of the game.  Let's just admit that I looked at the calendar for the rest of the year and then I turned the electronic page to 2013 and it looks gloomy for getting this one done on time.  Lewis Carroll stated it best:  the hurrier I go, the behinder I get.

Sneaking up on the half way mark and there is plenty of yarn left for completing this Coquille.  It is a wonderful pattern that is well thought out and easy to accomplish without constant reading of the next row.

Suitable for knitting in public where conversation and snacks might distract, this sideways shawl is really fun.  Especially due to the hint that the wraps (from the short row W&Ts) do not need to be picked up.  So, if you are looking for a new project, dive into your stash and get started.

If you hurry, you will have plenty of time to finish before this old Cajun gets done with hers.
